Lightness, speed and delicacy. If the first two are attributable to the proposals for the new millennium that Italo Calvino suggested in his American Lessons, it is the third, the delicacy, the proposal to the contemporary that Alessandro Girotto suggests with his new album Short Pink, exposing himself, without fear.
Guitarist with a line-up that starts at the Conservatory of Frosinone to go to classes with the great Pat Metheny, Girotto has for years made his artistic career a journey between a passion for traditional music, contemporary sound and the disinhibition of jazz, creating projects and albums like Quasi Memorie (2000) with the Ensemble In Bilico and Spartenza (2009) with the Sinenomine, brought live around the world. There have also been many trips alongside the female voices of Pilar and Franca Masu, with whose international tours has divided the stage with musicians such as Mark Harris, Fulvio Maras and Jean Louis Matinier.
Seven tracks, six by Girotto and one by Borrelli, for a total duration of just over fifty minutes, structured in an almost narrative sequence, like a novel, like a movie. The opening with Hotel Paradiso is the beginning of a journey, dynamic and sunny, with a riff of those that don't come off you anymore; with Labile the rhythm remains tense but the sound of the guitar is duplicated; Red Cheeks is a romantic lullaby in ballad formadi, with an immediate melody; the title track Short Pink continues with a slow rhythm, the notes become longer and the theme of the previous one adds a more labyrinthine writing, elusive; with Provisional the guitar returns in the wake of Hotel Paradiso as in a concept, until the farewell of Hipsos in which the sound returns melancholy to reconstruct the pieces of a feeling perhaps only dreamed of. The ending is left to The rest of your life written by the double-bass player Borrelli, an openness to life, like the end credits of a film that made us lose his emotions. But Short Pink even before a meaning is abandoned to the emotionality of music. Contaminated, melodic and communicative jazz with a complex harmonic structure. Girotto with his latest work had the courage to express his emotions, without showing his technique, but making use of it hidden, mature.
